Huddersfield shopping centre features new independent street vendors in its food court

A shopping centre based in the centre of Huddersfield has welcomed three new street food vendors to its hugely popular and versatile food court, as the independent scene becomes more and more popular.

Packhorse Shopping Centre has seen its food court become an instant hit with the public of Huddersfield, after it opened in November of last year. With firm favourite brands such as Burger King, Roosters, El Taco Loco and Real Café, the Packhorse Kitchen has seen an instant stream of happy customers entering the newly renovated first floor of the centre.

David Heathcote-Smith, centre manager of Packhorse Shopping Centre, said: “The end of last year was an incredibly successful period largely due to the popularity of the food court. The Packhorse now has an incredibly diverse retail offering with a wide selection of independent stores downstairs and plenty of food options upstairs.”

Because of this positive response from the food court opening, the Packhorse has continued in its effort to support independent outlets by offering three up and coming street food vendors the opportunity to trade in the Packhorse Kitchen.

Ranging from savoury or sweet French inspired crepes, authentic Asian cuisine to a range of Jamaican-jerked meat, the new additions to the food court bring something different to the centre.

Caroline Bouchard, part of the team at La Petite Bretonne, commented: “At Petite, we really believe in genuine, authentic food that you can see right in front of you. We love making our crepes and we think this transfers over to the customer experience when they visit our stall in the Packhorse.

“The range of options available to each and every customer really can’t be found in many other places. We’re pleased to be able to provide a huge range of crepes to choose from.”

La Petite Bretonne is just one of the new additions to the food court. Dapur Malaysia offer heart-warming, authentic Asian cuisine, with Jerk Hut the newest food vendor to join the team.

A Huddersfield-based shopping centre has welcomed its latest addition with an extravagant opening ceremony which drew in hundreds of visitors.

THE Chinese Buffet invited 100 guests to attend their exclusive event as the restaurant became the newest addition to the company’s portfolio. Situated in the Packhorse Shopping Centre, a crowd of local businesses, charities and university groups enjoyed a bubbles reception along with an impressive authentic ceremony involving a Chinese dragon leading the guests to their seats.

Peter Wu, one of the owners of THE Chinese Buffet, said: “It is great to see such a fantastic turnout for our opening event.

“We really appreciate the support from local businesses and the community.”

Boasting a high quality Sushi bar, Dim Sum bar and open theatre style Teppanyaki Kitchen, The Chinese Buffet will be sure to tingle taste buds.

THE Chinese Buffet is also focusing on helping out local charities as much as possible. Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Ruddi’s Retreat have been highlighted as two charities that it will be working closely with.

David Heathcote-Smith, centre manager of Packhorse Shopping Centre, said: “We are incredibly excited with the opening of THE Chinese Buffet and can see it being a real favourite amongst visitors.

“The fact it will be donating 50p of every meal for the first two weeks to chosen charities just illustrates its intentions to give back to the local community.”
